Dr Bevis Fenner
My practice explores the relationship between art, tourism and everyday life. I am interested in investigating the way that we can learn from the subjective processes of art and tourism to develop a duel consciousness or reflexive approach to the formation of narratives of the self. One of the aims of my multidisciplinary practice, which includes painting, collage, photography, video, installation, performance and artist-led projects, is to expose the paradoxes and inadequacies of commercialised leisure in terms of reward and liberation. I also use relational practice and processes of authoring / de-authoring, to highlight the ambivalent and paradoxical nature of object production and exchanges within late capitalist systems.
